The Last of Us: Part II – Immediate Thoughts

The Last of Us Part II is one of the most ambitious and thought-provoking games I’ve ever played. This game is about the cycle of violence and revenge but as you go deeper and deeper you being to understand the messages of love, empathy and obsession and how that obsession will cost you everything if you let it. What I feel people aren’t taking away from this game is that although it presents itself as a revenge story it is not at all. In fact, it’s a game about love.

Get Out (2017)

Jordan Peele’s directorial debut Get Out combines the horror and comedy genres to create a movie that tackles the largest socio-political subject taking place in modern America, racism. After the presidential election of Barack Obama in 2008, there was a belief that racism had become something of the past, however Peele wanted to create aContinueContinue reading “Get Out (2017)”

Manchester by the Sea (2016)

Manchester by the Sea is both directed and written by Kenneth Lonergan and tells the story of Lee Chandler (Casey Affleck), a depressed and hard to like handyman who must return to his hometown after the death of his brother. To his surprise, he is named guardian to his nephew. However, Lee is haunted byContinueContinue reading “Manchester by the Sea (2016)”

Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

have never been the biggest fan of Thor in the Marvel Cinema Universe (MCU). It’s not that I hate his character, but I have never connected with him like I have with the likes of Iron Man, Spiderman or Star Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy. However, Taika Waititi has transformed this character to create possibly my favourite MCU movie to date, and with Infinity War around the corner, it’s going to take a huge effort to dethrone it.

The Snowman (2017)

Talented cast, the director of ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’, and adapted from a best-selling novel. No way this could be a bad movie, right? Wrong. This film is a complete mess and unfortunately may quite possibly be the most disappointing films of the year.

Sleepless in Seattle (1993)

Caution: Spoilers Ahead. Sleepless in Seattle opens with a shot of a father and son at a funeral and the words ‘Mommy got sick’ are narrated. From here we know this isn’t our typical romantic comedy. Only 5 minutes of the 1 hour and 45-minute run-time includes the two main love interests. How does thatContinueContinue reading “Sleepless in Seattle (1993)”
